Arabic Letter Ain (ع) Handwriting Worksheet

ArabicEarlyChildhoodFree PDFgrade-1

Trace and write Ain (ع), the eighteenth letter of the Arabic alphabet. Ain is an open curve on top with a deep tail below, and no dots — but its shape changes more than most letters across its four forms. This worksheet practises all four positional forms — isolated (ع), initial (عـ), medial (ـعـ) and final (ـع), with stroke-direction arrows.

About this worksheet

Ain (ع) is the eighteenth letter of the Arabic alphabet. It is pronounced as a squeezed sound from the middle of the throat with no English equivalent — learners often begin by approximating it as a short “a” said from the throat.

Ain is an open curve on top with a deep tail below, and no dots — but its shape changes more than most letters across its four forms. This worksheet practises all four positional forms — isolated (ع), initial (عـ), medial (ـعـ) and final (ـع), with stroke-direction arrows to guide each movement.

You will find Ain at the start of everyday words such as عين (eye) and عنب (grapes). Writing tip: Notice how the top curve closes into a small loop in the medial and final forms — practising all four forms together is the best way to learn it.
