Arabic Letter Yaa (ي) Handwriting Worksheet

Yaa (ي) is the twenty-eighth letter of the Arabic alphabet. It is pronounced as a “y”, like in “yes”, or a long “ee” sound when it works as a vowel.

Yaa is a curving body with two dots below; at the start or middle of a word it becomes a short tooth with two dots below. This worksheet practises all four positional forms — isolated (ي), initial (يـ), medial (ـيـ) and final (ـي), with stroke-direction arrows to guide each movement.

You will find Yaa at the start of everyday words such as يد (hand) and ياسمين (jasmine). Writing tip: In the isolated and final forms let the curve swing below the line, then place the two dots side by side underneath.
